In order to facilitate accurate tracking, reporting and operations, Acquia's business engineering team is responsible for Acquia's e-commerce experience, corporate websites such as acquia.com and our partner portal, including integrations between them and various backend SaaS systems.
As the Director of Business Engineering you will be leading a passionate agile team of open-source developers to build and deliver improvements to these systems including integrations with Salesforce, Zendesk, Intacct, Acquia's marketing web sites, internal data warehouse, and products.
This position is based in Burlington, MA office and reports directly to the VP of IT.
What will you do?
- Lead a passionate team of highly skilled open-source front end and back end developers.
- Work closely with finance, sales, support, and engineering and other stakeholders, to design solutions that meet their needs
- Deliver to agreed-upon schedules without sacrificing quality
- Triage and respond rapidly to new issues
- Promote agile best practices using Scrum and Kanban
- Facilitate the consistent adoption and continuous learning of existing and emerging best practices
- Perform build versus buy analysis for new projects, with a preference for integrating existing SaaS solutions where possible.
- Mentor and lead team members to develop solid engineering skills and careers
- Ensure code quality and sound system architecture to allow our services to scale and be extended as needed
- Act as a strong servant-leader, removing impediments in the team's way and helping the team find the optimum path forward
What do you bring to the team?
- A passion for leading great teams to build SaaS services and tools, and for helping us build a strong, fast growing business for the long term
- A history of developing products using open-source technologies
- Minimum 5 years experience managing large commercial (not IT) web development projects using agile processes and engineering best practices
- Strong problem solving abilities, intelligence, initiative, and the ability to thrive under pressure
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- A history of designing systems for security, high availability, scalability and data integrity
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in computer science, or other technical discipline preferred
- An API-first mentality
- Experience building SaaS platforms
- Experience leading distributed teams
- Experience working with open source communities a plus
